Get to Know Us!
We are now in our 6th month, and it is time to introduce your Fabric Fusion staff to you. We will do three in this news letter and 3 in the next, for this news letter we begin with:
BJ Squarek, Owner/Professional Enabler
BJ took sewing classes in high school and didn’t like it. About 10 years ago she took a quilting class with her mother and the rest is history. She previously worked at a quilting store and felt she had many ideas in that regard. Her husband said why not buy the store instead of just thinking and talking about it! She decided to pursue this endeavor with the help and support of her amazing family. BJ has completed dozens of quilts including Quilts of Valour, and quilts for charities and family and friends. BJ has an extensive knowledge of fabrics and a keen sense for coordinating fabrics to meet your specific project needs. She just loves to work with customers to make selecting the right fabric simple. BJ is also a member of the Lethbridge Centennial Quilters Guild.
Maureen Wills, Customer’s Elf
Mauie sewed her own clothes for approximately 10 years before she began quilting. Her fifteen-year interest in quilting has taken her from applique, to paper piecing, to traditional, to modern and art quilts. She worked in another quilt shop for four years before joining us at Fabric Fusion. Mauie says her favorite part of working at Fabric Fusion her co-workers and helping customers pick beautiful materials to make their favorite pattern or project.

Shania Sunga designs fabric for Cantik Batiks as well owns her pattern company Shania Sunga Designs. Shania is from Nanaimo, BC, Canada a beautiful port city on Vancouver Island. Shania's loves nature and her passion for photography inspires her to develop new ideas and create a colour palette which has become her signature.Shania is an inspiration...for those who have been fortunate to work with her walk away with a greater love for the passion which goes into every colour she chooses, pattern she creates and fabric she designs.
Shania's Ready Made Fabric Kits use raw edge applique, a simple technique for sewers of all levels. Shania's extreme attention to detail makes her patterns and kits very easy to complete.
Kit includes the same fabrics which Shania designed for Cantik Batik and used to make her original sample. Each kit contains fabrics for the top, borders, bindings and pattern. In addition each kit is hand cut and packaged in Canada with a Cantik Batik label, this is our guarantee that each kit is right...if not, we will make it right. Simply contact us info@csm.
Jelly Roll Projects?
Do you need a Jelly Roll Rug but can’t find the colors you like? Come in a pick out five fabrics you would like in your rug and we will cut them into strips for you for $5.00. You could also bring in your own fabric and we will cut the strips for you for $5.00, or use the AccuQuilt cutter yourself for $10.00 for ½ hour and cut away!!
Calling all Husqvarna Viking Embroidery Machine Owners
Fabric Fusion is starting an embroidery club and is looking for all embroiderers out there that would like to work together with others to learn your machines better. Our certified Machine Specialist, Lorraine Kent, will teach new techniques as well as new projects to enhance your skills and results. We expect to have this in operation by mid September and would appreciate your expressions of interest in this. Please contact us by email, phone or drop in to discuss.

Long Arm Quilting Machines Now at Fabric Fusion!
With installation on July 3rd, Fabric Fusion now has the 10 ft frame with the Q'nique 21 and Q'nique 15 long machines installed in store for your review.
Q-Zone Hoop Frame
We now have the Grace Q-Zone hoop frames in our store. Come in and see the frame that allows you to quilt sitting or standing, makes quilts of any size, with its space saving design, is height adjustable, and is very budget friendly.
The Q-Zone is a new type of machine quilting frame that easily manages fabric like a simple hoop. With its small space saving design, you can set it up in any room and still quilt even the largest projects. It is perfect for cross-brand compatibility and made to work with many quilting machines from domestics to long arms with up to a 10inch throat space. Now the size of your quilt is no longer limited by the width of the frame. Quilt as large as queen, king and larger all on this 4½ foot frame using our new zone to zone quilting method.
Classes

Jelly Roll Rug Classes
Make a Jelly Roll Rug. Since these classes are being held on multiple dates in September, please call in and confirm the date you wish to attend. Pre-register with payment 10 days prior to the class to avoid missing out. Class participants receive a 5% discount on store purchases made during the course.
Windy Days - Martha Penner
This is a 2 day course to be held on Saturday Oct 13 and Saturday Oct 20. Martha is a Judy Niemeyer Quilting Certified Instructor in Canada. Martha made her first "Judy" quilt, a Sunflower Illusions, in 2013 in a class with friends. It was her first paper piecing quilt even though she had been making quilts since the early 90's. Martha will pass on the helpful tips to fellow quilters to make the process of piecing the quilts together easy and fun. More details to follow. Please advise your interest in this class so we expect it to fill up quickly. Price includes the Book, Ruler and Charm elements package
Karen Bialik's Quilt Design
Karen Bialik is now a class instructor at Fabric Fusion, and will start with a two-day class on September 22th and 29th. You will have the choice of two quilt designs to make your quilt top. They are "Our Hearts Will Go On", and "Forever". Please come by and reserve your spot for this class. You will receive a 20% on rulers and a 10% discount on other supplies purchased for this class.
Mystery Bag Challenge
Last chance for the Mystery Bag Challenge. Completed projects are due by August 13th. Purchase a bag for $20.00. Take it home and get creative! Make whatever you want from the contents of the bag, but you MUST use at least some of everything in the bag. You can add whatever else you would like, use a lot or a little, it is up to you.
All items will be on display from August 13th to August 25th during Whoop Up Days. Customers will vote on their favorite. If your project is chosen you will receive a $50 Gift Certificate from Fabric Fusion.
Grand Forks Flood Relief Support
Fabric Fusion is a drop off point for this humanitarian relief program. Drop off your extra sewing supplies, fabrics, patterns, and quilts, (lap quilts, twin or double size quilts) at our store by August 28th and we will organize all the donations for delivery. We will also offer a 10% discount for items purchased at the store when you are dropping of your items.
Accuquilt Studio 2 Fabric Cutter
We now have an Accuquilt Studio 2 Fabric Cutter in our store! This amazing machine is available for rent at $10 per 1/2 hour. Studio cutters make quilting easier, are 90% faster than traditional rotary cutters and are safer and more accurate. You can cut up to 10 layers of fabric at once. we have dies for 2 1/2 inch strips, 5 inch charms, dresden, hexigons, circles, tumbler blocks and others.
